A Report On The E-C Translation Of Gouache

Anywhere Anytime Art:GOUACHE is an English teaching book introduced by Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House,teaching how to paint gouache.The author was commissioned by the editor of the publishing house to translate the book into Chinese.The author analyses the characteristics of the art text,and chooses Nida's functional equivalence theory.As the original text is an art text,the language is elegant,intuitive and professional.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory,the author uses the techniques and strategies such as free translation and naturalization.This translation report was based on this task,the author analyzed linguistic features of the ST and TT at the lexical,syntactic and the textual levels of English and Chinese,also translated the text.In the report,the author mainly elaborated the contents of the five parts,the source of the translation task,the analysis of the source,the characteristics of the ST,the translation theories,methods,the description of the translation process,author also analyzed the important case,lexical and sentence patterns.The analysis,as well as the author's final summary of the translation process,the problems and solutions encountered in the translation process of the texts,the functional equivalence theory how to guide the translation,and problems that have not yet been resolved,also reflects the advantages and disadvantages,at last the author provided some suggestions on how to improve the practice ability of the translation in the future based on the translation process and analysis of the text.
