Doris Lessing was a famous British contemporary writer,who was also a unique and great writer in the history of world literature.She won the Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 88 in 2007.Her career lasted for more than half a century.She was considered an evergreen tree in English literary circles and even in the world literary circles.She was known as"the old grandmother of literary circles".Her masterpiece The Golden Notebook was noted as the"Feminist Bible",and Lessing herself was known as the"Beauvoir of England".Lessing has always been faithful to her heart in her writing career,her works have profound connotations and diverse themes,including novels,short story collections,plays and poetry.This paper mainly introduces translation and acceptance of Lessing’s works in China,taking the translation and acceptance of The Golden Notebook as a case study.The introduction part briefly introduces Lessing’s life experience and notable works,summarizes and analyses the study of Lessing’s works and The Golden Notebook at home and abroad.In addition,the value and significance of this paper are briefly explained.Section one gives a historical review of translation and introduction of Lessing’s works in China,which can be divided into four periods according to their respective characteristics:timely translation in the 1950s,silence in the 1960s and 1970s,return in the 1980s and 1990s,and the peak of translation and introduction research since the new century.Section two is an analysis of the acceptance of Doris Lessing and her works in China.There are two parts:1.The acceptance of Doris Lessing and her works in the 20th century in China.2.The acceptance of Doris Lessing and her works in the 21th century in China.Acceptance of Lessing and her works changes in different social and cultural background.Thus,three aspects are included,Lessing and her works in textbooks of literary history,researches on Lessing’s works and Lessing’s works on the internet.Section three is a case study,which takes The Golden Notebook as an example and analyzes two Chinese versions of it,followed by the research on the acceptance of it.The summary reflects on the deficiencies of research done on Lessing’s works in China,considers the need for greater research regarding Lessing’s works and translations in China,and summarizes the favorable factors that lead Lessing to Nobel prize in Literature,so as to inspire the development of Chinese literature and encourage Chinese writers go abroad.
