Cameroon and China formally established their diplomatic relations on March 26,1971.Over the past 48 years,the two countries have maintained good and mutual relations in politics,culture,education,economy etc.In order to fasten the friendly relations between Cameroon and China,the Zhejiang Normal University of China and the University of Yaounde ?,Cameroon,through a relevant agreement,jointly built the Confucius Institute at the University of Yaounde ?,in 2007.In only 12 years,the Confucius Institute at the University of Yaounde ?,has made some great achievements and has been ranked among the best Confucius Institute in past Years by the Confucius institute Head quarters(Hanban).However,many problems remained unsolved in Chinese teaching,Chinese textbooks,Chinese teachers,Chinese cultural activities,Chinese tests and many other aspects:the main problems of the Chinese textbooks include the unsuffiency of the local teaching materials and the inappropriate Chinese teaching materials.As far as the Chinese teachers are concerned,they have neither cross-cultural communication,nor a teaching experience.Among other major problems,are the strong mobility of the native Chinese teachers and the insufficiency of the local teachers.The major Chinese teaching points are concentrated in big cities like Yaounde and Douala.Then,most small and medium-sized cities,as well as rural areas have no Chinese teaching points.The purpose of this study is to promote the sustainable development of the Cameroon Confucius Institute;then we provide the Cameroon Confucius Institute with solutions to the existing problems,and setup new strategies for its sustainable development.This paper also provides references for the development of the Confucius Institute,through meticulous comparative analysis of the four main international cultural institutions in Cameroon.In this study,the main research methods that the author uses include Literature method,Questionnaire method,interview method,comparative analysis method and so on.The research objects include 77 students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Yaounde II,16 Chinese language teachers and the 4 major international cultural institutions in Cameroon.This paper consists of seven parts:the first part explains the choice of the topic,research significance,research objects,research difficulties,research methods and research ·innovation.The plan of creation of the vocational Confucius institutes affiliated with the current Confucius Institutes and the analysis of the relation between the main Confucius ' ideas and the international days are the main innovations of this research.The second part of this study is the literature review;it includes the Cameroon and overseas literature review.The third chapter introduces the background of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Yaounde II Cameroon,and then analyzes its present situation.The fourth chapter analyzes the situation of the Chinese language teachers and students,the situation of the Chinese teaching materials,classroom and cultural activities,the Chinese test,etc.In the fifth chapter,the author analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the Cameroon Confucius Institutes.The sixth chapter is a series of sustainable development strategies for the Cameroon Confucius Institute.The development strategies put forward by the author are as follows:Take the linguistic diversities,the academic and cultural realities among other factors into consideration when writing the teaching materials,solve the problem of Chinese language teachers mobility,train more local Chinese teaches,spread Chinese culture through international days,broaden the research scope of the Cameroon Confucius Institute.
