The translation project I have accomplished involves the first three chapters of A Brief History of Ancient Greece by English ancient historian,P.J.Rhodes.The source text describes the ancient Greek from the eight century BC to the five century BC,including Prologue,The Archaic Greek World,Sparta and Athens respectively.Prologue gives an overall introduction, and the other two chapter put emphasis on the fierce rivalry between Sparta and Athens as well as great events in ancient Greece, such as the ancient Olympic games,Delian League. The translation report is guided by Katharina Reiss' text typology, consisting of four parts.Chapter One presents an overview of the translation project, including an introduction to the author and the source text and my preparation for the translation project.Chapter Two introduces the guiding theories for the project—text typology, and an analysis of the source text accordingly.Chapter Three is about translation skills applied in this project. It will be discussed from three aspects: terms;culture-specific items;sentences. The translation skills applied are inversion, negation, conversion and so on.Chapter Four concludes with the experience I have learnt from the project and problems to be solved.
