China opened the door to foreign countries during the era of Republic of China and Shanghai had gradually became a city that were forced to open itself during that time. With the continuing pouring of the Western culture and art into china,a large number of young Chinese artists at the time began to play catch-up to follow suit of the Western gods in their heart and Da Vinci,Angell,Monet,Van Gogh became the people which they often mentioned.Studying abroad, joining art schools and investing in art education became popular at the time. Most of the young people who studied abroad and came back to the nation after then were often with a sense of superiority,it seemed as if they were favors of the fate. These young people who were fully convinced of the Western art were dismissive of their own traditional art.During this period,Chinese art circles filled with contradictions and struggles. Some artists hoped to preserve the national heritage through their own efforts by carrying forward the traditional Chinese paintings and awaking Chinese people with art. However, some other painters wanted to meet more people with lofty ideals and dreamed to save their motherland by using the power of the group of painters, and during that time, various painting organizations sprung up like mushrooms. In the first half part of the twentieth Century, there were more than 90 art associations were found in Shanghai where had became the main collection and distribution center of calligraphers and painters at that time. The Chinese Painting Association explored in this paper was also created at this time,of which the main sponsors were famous calligraphers and painters at that time.Because of the accelerating changes of social environment at that time,Chinese Painting Association became mature rapidly, and the development model of it has changed from a single pattern of purely absorbing external influence into a two-way pattern of absorption and radiation. This article was starting from the studies on the exiting academic studies on the Chinese Painting Association and found that most of the studies are journal articles and are too short, which only give a short instruction to the Chinese Painting Association.Because of these reasons, this paper was mainly to study these aspects. This was the meanings of this study itself and also claritied the research methods at the same time. This article was divided into four parts. The first part mainly introduced the background and reasons of the foundation of the Chinese Painting Association, and also introduced the pattern of the painting at the beginning of establishment of the Chinese Painting Association. The second part analyzed the main development process of the Chinese Painting Association and the evolution of its members'painting style, thus illustrated the whole development line of the painting society. The third part furtherly studied the main exhibitions and achievements of the Chinese Painting Association in the past, and these studies clearly defined the status of the Chinese Painting Association in the art circle at that time.Last but not least, the fourth part explored the influence of the Chinese Painting Association at home and abroad, which fully affirmed the outstanding contribution of the Chinese Painting Association. This paper used a step-by-step approach to depth analysis and exploration of the Chinese Painting Association.Overall, this paper explored the history of the Chinese Painting Association and studied its radiation and impact on domestic and foreign painting, and these can help us to establish a knowledge system related to the Chinese Painting Association, and then help us quickly find the missing link in this system. Most important of all,to study the Chinese Painting Association has a huge positive significance in expanding the history of Chinese modern art.
