During the period of the Republic of China,the Jiangnan area centered on Shanghai,Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province were the center of Chinese fine arts.There were many calligraphy and painting associations.Like Baishe,they didn't take survival as the orientation,but pursued academic ideals.In such a social environment,cultural scholar and artists associated with a mass organizations isn't only a minority,but also a unique landscape.Baishe is an exclusive society with strong Jiangnan Wuyue color which the person can't entered without agreement.So it is an association which is congenital “defect”.Fortunately,it is a closed phenomenon of artists' association in Jiangnan area that led to the development of freehand flower and bird painting since Wu Changshuo,which influencing the Cognition and Change of Chinese Traditional Literati Painting.With an example of Baishe,this article analysis the phenomenon of art associations which in the Jiangnan area during the period of the Republic of China.From Sishu to colleges and universities,from the market to education,and from Shanghai School to various schools.It is also summarize the commonplace of the art associations,which decsribed as beginning,developing,expanding and the transition.With the behavior of public,exhibition,art market,which it is very important to the development of art associations.This paper explores the operation mode and nature of associations,the significance and value of the phenomenon of cross-associations.At the end,make a conclusion about the influence and significance of important members of associations on the higher art education teaching system of Chinese painting.
