The spread of Chinese culture and Mandarin Language has increased at an alarming rate due to China being among the top world economy countries.In response to this trend,since 2005,China has managed to set up four main Confucius Institutes in Kenya.Under the support of Confucius Institute Headquarters Han ban in China,the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University was established on 3rd June 2010.The establishment of Confucius institutes in Kenya has played a major role in creating a bridge between china and Kenya so as to promote the development of Chinese language education in Kenya.This has been enabled through increased the numbers of students learning Mandarin Language in Kenya and in China through scholarships.The development of Chinese language education in Kenya cannot be separated from the subject of Local Kenyan Mandarin Teachers.However,the need for qualified Local teachers has been a subject of interest especially on issues concerning the educational level of Local Mandarin teachers and on how to improve their teaching professional skills in teaching Mandarin language.Therefore,taking the Confucius Institute of Kenyatta University as an example,this This article will set examples based on a case study on the Current teaching Condition of Kenyan Mandarin Teachers,analyse the source of existing problems and give corresponding suggestions and strategies on how to improve the teaching condition with a view to promote and improve the quality of Chinese language education in Kenya.This article is divided into six main sub-sections.The first section is the introduction of the relevance of the paper,research background and related literature review;the second section discusses Kenya's education system and the general overview of Chinese department at Kenyatta University Confucius institute;the third section is the main body,which deeply discusses the current teaching situation of Local Kenyan Mandarin teachers at the latter Confucius Institute;the fourth section analyses the existence problems concerning Local Kenyan Mandarin teachers whileteaching,issues such as over-reliance on Grammar translation teaching methods,lack of enthusiasm of Local teachers,lack of training etc.The fifth section outlines strategies on how Kenyan Mandarin teachers can develop their teaching profession such as exploring the possibility of cooperative teaching between Chinese teachers of the two countries.The six section is the general summary and final remarks.The significance of this study is to make a thorough investigation and analysis of of native Kenyan Mandarin teachers teaching situation,and on this basis find out the solutions to the existing problems while suggesting corresponding countermeasures,so as to come up with an effective teaching approach that will enable Kenyan students to learn Mandarin language with more enthusiasm and promote the development of Chinese teaching in Kenya.
