A Practice Report On Interpreting For The Tencent Global Partner Conference

This is a simultaneous interpretation practice report.The selected materials for this mock conference interpreting are a speech and a panel discussion delivered at Tencent Global Partners Conference in 2018.The Chinese-English interpreting is a speech brought by Lin Songtao,vice president of Tencent,which is about Tencent's Internet consumption and innovation for internet culture and entertainment.The English-Chinese interpreting is a panel discussion.The author concluded the difficulties and strategies based on the recordings of the mock simultaneous interpretation.Recordings and videos are included in the mock conference process.In the first part of keynote speech,the main problems are fast speaking speed,high density information and internet terminologies.While during the panel discussion,facing randomness and improvisation,the author has to resolve problems such as disorder of the speech round,redundant information,accent.In order to solve these problems,the author,guided by Effort Model,adopted kinds of interpreting strategies,such as omission,generalization,theoretical interpretation and other strategies.These interpretation strategies ensured the smooth,concise interpretation with complete information.The purpose of this practice report is to provide feasible strategies for translators and students in the real simultaneous interpretation meetings or simultaneous interpretation classes.Interpreters can allocate effort reasonably to improve the quality and efficiency of simultaneous interpretation with these strategies.
