| R-coloured voice is a important sound-altering phenomenon in Mandarin due to its multiple functions such as differing meanings.Although it is one of the difficult points in teaching Chinese as a foreign language as well as native language,it does not get enough attention which it deserves.This paper,which focuses on the learning of r-coloured vowels in Mandarin among American & British students with intermediate Chinese level,was based on the method of experimental phonetics and the technology of sound spectrum.By doing comparative analysis about the data of r-coloured vowels in the aspects of phonetic length and formant F3,with the assistant of manual detection,we discovered that there are some certain differences in terms of Mandarin r-coloured vowels pronunciation between the standard Mandarin speakers and foreign students,which reflect some relevant problems in their learning process of r-coloured vowels in Mandarin.Furthermore,we also find out some ways that how do the rhotic vowels in American English affect the learning of Mandarin r-coloured vowels.At last we analyse the reasons of their biased errors and try to put forward some targeted teaching strategies and suggestions,in the hope of helping students whose mother tongue is English learning better in Mandarin r-coloured vowels. |
