The source text of this translation report is taken from Chapter Seventeen of Energy: A Human History,which displays the process of energy transition,from wood to coal and coal made room for oil,as we now turn to natural gas,nuclear power,and renewable energy.The purpose of this translation report is to review the difficulties and solutions in the process of translation under the guidance of Catford's Translation Shifts Theory.The source text is informative text,which contains semi-technical,technical words,and many long and complex sentences.According to the characteristics of the source text,the translator will take translation methods such as annotation and translation shifts to deal with the terminologies and words,moreover,division and conversion are taken to handle the translation of long sentences.The entire translation report is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of this translation project,including project background,significance and structure of the report.The second chapter is about the introduction of the author,the main contents,publishing facts and features of the source text.The third chapter is the theoretical Guidance.The fourth chapter is the analysis of translation difficulties.The fifth chapter concentrates on the solutions to terms as well as long and complicated sentences.The final chapter discusses the enlightenment gained and problems to be solved.Through this translation practice,the translator learned the extra linguistical knowledge,but there is still a long way for the translator to master the ability of translation.
