Freemasonry—The Influence Of Power Matching On Interpersonal Attraction

Power and interpersonal attraction are important components of interpersonal communication.Power is the basic force of social relations.Interpersonal attraction is a prelude to people's intimate relationship,and it will continue because of their love for each other.It is a positive form in interpersonal relationships.The core of this paper is to explore the impact of power matching on interpersonal appeal.Based on the agentic-communal model of power and the accessible-diagnostic theory,High-powered people will generate more ability information and will also be more diagnostic of the ability information;while people with low power will generate more warm information and will be more diagnostic of warm information.Therefore,it is proposed that power matching has a certain positive impact on interpersonal attraction.This paper provides a new perspective for studying the relationship between power and interpersonal appeal.Three experiments are mainly used to examine and explore the impact of the matching of power on interpersonal attraction.In the first experiment,the traits of the subjects were measured,and the personal information generated by the subjects was coded in two dimensions of ability and enthusiasm to determine the information difference between the individuals with different levels of power in the ability and enthusiasm.The results show that high-powered people generate more information about ability,while low-power people generate more information related to enthusiasm.Experiment 2 is based on Experiment 1,and then based on the agentic-communal model of power and the accessible-diagnostic theory of information.By measuring the traits of the subject's traits and allowing the subjects to score the interpersonal appeal of the information generated by individuals with different levels of power,the role of the power matching effect in traits of interpersonal power in interpersonal attraction is explored.Experiment 3 explores the influence of the matching of state power on interpersonal attraction through role-playing method,and further verifies the power matching effect between communicators,that is,high-power individuals are more likely to be attracted by high-powered people,while low power Individuals are more likely to be attracted to low-powered people.The experimental results also show that interpersonal attractionis affected by the consistency of power perception.This study is useful for us to understand and integrate the current findings of power and interpersonal relationships,and the study can also predict some unknown power effects.
