The middle and lower reaches of the Yuanjiang River in the northwestern Hunan Province is one of the birthplaces of human civilization. The study of the distribution characteristics of paleoculture sites and the migration of paleoculture in this area has always been focus of the geoscience field. However, most previous studies primarily focused on individual sites, and distribution of paleoculture sites and migration of paleoculture changes in the basin has not been enhanced. Therefore, this paper characterized the distribution of the paleoculture sites and the migration of paleoculture in this region in combination with the previous research results.By doing this,we can provide important evidence for the sustainable development of the human living environment in the region. Some preliminary conclusions can be drowned.1.The spatial distribution of paleoculture sites in different periods were analyzed. Our study indicated that the number of paleoculture sites gradually increased eastward from high to low levels. Most sites evenly distributed along the river and potentially concentrated at the junction of rivers. The high floodplain and low-level terraces of the river with flat terrain, abundance water, and good vegetation coverage were more suitable for human survival.2.Different paleoculture features in different geomorphoic environments of the middle and lower reaches of the Yuanjiang River were analyzed and compared with Wushui paleoculture Group and Lishui paleoculture Group. We concluded that the paleoculture in the middle Yuanjiang River should belong to Wushui paleoculture Group, while the paleoculture in the lower Yuanjiang River should be closer to Lishui paleoculture Group.3.The paleoculture changes and their influencing factors in the middle and lower reaches of the Yuanjiang River were analyzed. We found that the climate change events would lead to a large reduction in the number of paleoculture sites, and the natural disaster caused by climate change would also limit the development of ancient humans.
