A Study On The Ritual System In The War Narration Of Zuo Zhuan

Zuo Zhuan is good at narration,especially for its war narration.Zuo Zhuan often adds the record of ritual system to its war narration,which constitutes an important part of its war narration.Previous studies on this content mainly focused on the direction of textual research and seeking truth,but from the point of view of historical narrative,"Zuo Zhuan" is bound to infiltrate its potential position and value judgment into the prose besides recording historical events.Therefore,from the perspective of historical history,it is undoubtedly of great academic significance to analyze the war narrative of Zuo Zhuan,which emphasizes rituals.In view of this,this paper will make up for the shortcomings on the basis of previous studies,select historical materials in an all-round way,and carry out a systematic study of the ritual system in the war narrative of Zuozhuan.The first three chapters of this paper will sort out the specific contents of the war etiquette recorded in Zuozhuan according to the records of the etiquette system in different stages of the war in Zuozhuan.For example,in the first chapter,the warfare rites recorded in Zuozhuan in the pre-war period are divided into several kinds,such as Dasou rites,announcement rites,divination rites and divination rites,etc.,to analyze the etiquette norms that the army should follow before its expedition in the Spring and Autumn Period;in the second chapter,the warfare rites recorded in Zuozhuan are divided into the rites of attorney,the rition rites of visiting teachers and other etiquettes,among which the ritual traditions of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties are inherited.The third chapter divides the post-war rituals recorded in Zuozhuan into several kinds,such as the gift of offering shortcuts,the gift of drinking to the enemy and the gift of surrender,in order to explore the difference of rituals that winners and losers should follow after the end of the war in the Spring and Autumn Period.The fourth chapter of this paper will focus on the contradiction of Zuozhuan's treatment of etiquette.Zuozhuan's narrative of etiquette does not simply stop at describing the content of different warfare rites,but reveals the complex influence of etiquette on warfare in depth.It not only affirms the positive significance of observing etiquette,but also criticizes the unacceptable behavior of observing etiquette.This contradictory narrative tendency is quite noticeable.Through the analysis,it is not difficult to find that Zuozhuan attaches great importance to the etiquette system,but not to the maintenance of etiquette rules,but to its impact on the overall social environment.With some seemingly utilitarian narrative tendencies in Zuozhuan,criticizing the traditional etiquette system actually implies the value orientation of the ideal society in pursuit of peace and courtesy.The last chapter of this paper will focus on the analysis of the role of etiquette in the war narrative of Zuozhuan.The war should be bloody and cruel,but Zuo Zhuan,by inserting the narrative of etiquette into the war narrative,makes the war which only brings disaster and destruction appear mild and courteous,thus playing an important role in whitewashing the purpose of war and avoiding the cunning and cruelty of war.From it,it is not difficult to understand that the author conveys the value orientation of war through such narrative and propagates a war concept of restraint and propriety.
