Increased cultural exchanges between China and the world brought more and more foreign teachers into China's classroom, where they teach professional courses and introduce foreign educational concepts and experiences to Chinese students, stepping up the demand for educational interpreting.Based on the interpreting practice on the 2018 International Training Course of Chaoyang District,Beijing, the author intends to explore the characteristics of educational interpreting and the multiple roles of interpreter through case study. This report believes that compared with other types of interpreting, educational interpreting has its own unique characteristics, including specific context, where there are specific speaker and audience groups;professional content, which can be unfamiliar to not only the interpreter, but also the lecturer and learners;diversified forms of communication through which the lecturer would interact with learners in and out of class;short interpreting unit that switch the turn of speaking between the lecturer and interpreter quickly;dynamic content that keeps changing throughout the process.Based on these characteristics, this report concludes multiple roles the interpreter needs to be during the process.rather than being a mere interpreter,he/she also needs to be a participant of the class activities,a representative of learners to speak out their needs and ideas,a co-teacher to help the lecturer's teaching, and an assistant to the lecturer and learners for solving problems encountered in the process.
