| As a report on technical business interpreting, this dissertation describes two consecutive interpreting tasks conducted by me in two CMMI review meetings in January 2019 and July 2019 for two science and technology companies.CMMI(Capability Maturity Model Integration)is an international software development certification, which is used to prove a company’s software development capability.Through the task review,I find that based on the requirements of the employer,I was occasionally "visible" to deal with the difficulties encountered in the interpreting process to achieve the communicative goal.Drawing on Grice’s Cooperative Principle(1975),I try to explore the visibility of interpreters in business conference through case analysis. In this report, features of the task and interpreting process are fully described.Pre-task preparation, difficulties I encountered and the method I used are fully analyzed and evaluated through the lens of Cooperative Principle. In the case study chapter, three roles of the interpreter, namely the text-reorganizer,co-interlocutor and coordinator are analyzed.I find that appropriate visibility of the interpreter is conducive to achieve the communicative goal of business conference.Previous studies on interpreter’s "visibility" mainly focused on medical and court interpreting, seldom on business interpreting. In a business meeting, interpreter’s position tends to be biased towards the entrusting company to achieve the communicative goal. The analysis of "visibility" helps interpreters understand the necessity and appropriateness of visibility in business conference to better recognize their roles in interpreting process, thereby ensuring the success of business activities. |
