This is a practice report on the translation of the first twelve chapters of The Success of Failure, totaling more than 10,000 words. This book tells the story of Tony who is a young and growing leader. He made a mistake in his new role but finally gained his own success under the help of his friends.By summarizing the lessons learned by Tony, the author of The Success of Failure gives concise advice. This creatively written story gives practical advice to anyone wishing to improve relationships and achieve personal and professional goals. It provides a path for us to pick ourselves back up and be stronger than before. The original text is a fable, and the author conveys to the reader what he wants to explain in a story-telling manner. Therefore, the primary requirement and the important challenge for the translator in the translation process are to accurately convey the original contents and reproduce the story scene constructed by the author. The functional equivalence theory pays attention to the translation effect and the reader’s reaction. It requires translators to pay attention to the meaning of the original text and not to stick to the language form of the original text when necessary. So reading experiences of the original readers and the target readers can be the same. The core of this theory coincides with the requirements of fable translation.According to this, the translator analyses the text from the three levels of lexical, syntax and text, and uses the methods of conversion of part of speech, synonymous application, voice transformation and word order transformation to solve various problems met in the translation practice process. The aim of the translator is to make the translation fluent and natural,in keeping with the expressions of the target language. And the translation can comply with the functional equivalence theory. This report explains in detail the process of translation, the problems encountered in translation and their solutions, and the experience summary. It is hoped that this will provide some reference for my further translation.
