This thesis is a translation practice report on child sexual abuse and its material is excerpted from Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: Sharing the Responsibility. What needs to be laid stress on is that there is no Chinese translation of the book and fewer researches on the field before the translator set out to do the job.Meanwhile, the thesis is accomplished on the basis of translation of the Chapters Three and Four which are involved with the roles and responsibilities shouldered by parents and professionals in child sexual abuse prevention, designed to arouse the attention of Chinese parents and people from all walks of life to child sexual abuse,so as to reduce the incidence of such events and offer the train of thought and basis for the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse in China.Based on this translation practice, this report views Peter Newmark's Text Analysis Theory as the theoretical guidance and then analyzes the source text in detail.According to Newmark's classification of text type, the source text of this translation practice belongs to informative text which puts emphasis on the reality outside the language and is written in modern language without individual features, such as common collocation, normal sentence pattern, and traditional idioms. Therefore, from the three respects of word, sentence and discourse,it intends to use the translation strategy of communicative translation and appropriate translation techniques to try to accurately convey the meaning of the original text with concise language in a proper way.To put it more concretely,in the first aspect, transliteration and conversion are adopted to tackle the Chinese translation of foreign names and word-to-word translation;in the second aspect, the translation applies addition, combination and division in order to guarantee the expressiveness and fluency of each sentence;at last,to ensure the cohesion and coherence of the whole discourse is the most important task of the translator.
