A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Chapter B6 In Analysis And Forecast On Cultural Development Of Gansu(Excerpts)

Gansu,with a deep-rooted cultural background,has a long history,and is the cultural resource treasury of Chinese civilization.Within these years,as a state-level cultural platform,Dunhuang International Cultural Expo is helping to advance the development of the cultural industry in Gansu.Under the background,the translation of relevant reports issued by government agencies is of great significance to foreign development of Dunhuang Cultural Expo and cultural industry in Gansu.The source text of this translation practice report is a report on development of cultural industries in Gansu,which is selected from Chapter B6 “The Study on the Connotation of‘Culture +' of Duhuang International Cultural Expo” in Analysis and Forecast on Cultural Development of Gansu(2018).The translator chose Newmark's text typology theory as the theoretical guidance.After analyzing the textual,syntactical and lexical features of the original text,the translator confirmed that it can be classified as informative texts.Meanwhile,there are objective data and relevant agreements signed during the Dunhuang Cultural Expo in part of source text,hence,communicative translation was used as main method and semantic translation was applied as the auxiliary method.This report first discusses the general translation methods and principles of the official reports,then the translation methods and techniques are analyzed from lexical,syntactic and textual aspects through specific difficulties and examples.At the lexical level,it mainly analyzes terms,four character structures,abbreviation and so on;at the syntactic level,it mainly discusses the processing of long and difficult sentences,non-subject sentences and structure of coordination;at the textual level,it mainly explores the cohesion and coherence.Through the application of Newmark's text typology theory in process of the translation,it is feasible to use the text typology theory to guide the translation of such official reports.In translation of official reports,the translator should not only accurately convey the information of the source text,retain its authority and rigor,but also make the translation conform to the logical habits of the English readers to improve the readability of the text.
