This paper is written according to the translation practice of chapter thirteen to chapter sixteen of Michelangelo and I by Gianluigi Colalucci.The book is written in the form of memoir of art with literature characteristics and is mainly about the work of restoring Michelangelo's fresco in Sistine Chapel including preparations,process of the restoration,stories during and after the restoration and so on.Fresco,as a technique of painting,has its own fascination.Not only do these chapters describe Michelangelo's fresco in a vivid way,but also introduce lots of knowledge of painting fresco,which popularizes the art.The book also contains some records of the dramatic interactions between the author and various guests coming to see the fresco from all around the world.This paper consists of four chapters:description of the translation project,translation process,case analysis and conclusion.The first chapter is the general introduction of the project including the source and content of the original.the significance of the translation and publication and requirements of the translation.The second chapter describes the process of the project,which can be divided into three parts:preparation before translating,translating and review.Through these three sessions,the author figures out the problems and difficulties of the material as well as the corresponding solutions.The third chapter discusses some typical cases in the original from four aspects:artistic words and phrases,technical description,fresco description,narration and emotions,which concludes the application of Skopostheorie and skills such as amplification,omission,conversion,the change of the voices,division and inversion.The fourth chapter concisely reviews the whole project,summarizes problems during translation and suggests directions of further efforts.
