The original text of this translation practice report is excerpted from Nicole Detraz's book Gender and the Environment,in which the translator selects chapters 2 and 4 to translate and write a translation practice report. The book explores the relationship between gender and environment, explaining that environmental problems are not only solved by technologies and management,a critical understanding of socio-economic,political and cultural processes and structures is also essential in the treatment of environmental issues. The book is a social science teaching material, which is a typical informative text. Therefore, the translator adopts different strategies according to different contexts from the perspectives of semantic translation and communicative translation. Moreover, based on Newmark's view that the informative text should achieve the communicative effect and the linguistic characteristics of the textbook(basic, functional, orderly, professional and normative),the translator puts forward that four translation principles should be followed in translating the social science textbook, namely,Appropriateness,Scientificity,Accuracy,as well as Readability. In addition, this translation practice also reflects the influence of the translator's subjectivity on the target text. The first is that the translator can select the materials according with his cognitive experience and interests, the other is he can affect the efficiency and scientificity of the text. The third is that the translator organizes the languages subjectively according to his own cognition in his expression.
