The first part of this paper mainly describes the source of the twin pagodas of the East and West Pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou,Fujian.It analyzes its relationship with the local harbor culture in Fujian,and believes that the construction of the twin-pagoda is not only driven by the concept of merit,but also has certain practical value.The sample of the construction of the twin-pagoda is very likely to be the Liusheng Pagoda and the Guzhen Pagoda in the port of Quanzhou Bay.It also proposes the connection between the twin pagodas and the dharani pollars.The second part mainly analyzes the engraving images on the east and west pagodas of Kaiyuan Temple.It is believed that the first story of East pagoda is mainly composed of Vajradhara,the second story is mainly composed of arhats,the third story is composed of dignitaries,and the fourth story is composed of Bodhisattvas.The fifth layer is composed of the Buddha.The West Pagoda is composed of Xuanzang and Emperor Liang,the picking monks and the Ma Lang women etc.The third part specially selects Hanshan,Liang Wudi and other images to analyze the configuration of them,which appear as epitome of the whole configuration of the Twin pagodas.Then,compare the image of Twin pagodas with the image of the Sakyamuni stupa in Putian,thus further demonstrating the similarities and differences of the configuration between the East pagoda and the West pagoda in Quanzhou.
