English reading is not only an important part of English study but a form of testing student's abilities of using English and mastering basic knowledge.In the English teaching of secondary vocational English,reading teaching is very important.Therefore,for teachers,reading teaching has become a challenge in English teaching.How to improve students' reading performance and ability through effective teaching methods is also a teaching problem for secondary vocational school English teachers.At present,the dilemma faced by secondary vocational English teachers is that students' interest in English reading is not high and the teachers' teaching methods are old-fashioned.They pay too much attention to presentation part,which is not conducive to mobilizing students' reading interest and developing reading habits.The old-fashioned teaching model is difficult to promote the students' reading performance and ability.The PAD class is a new domestic teaching model proposed by Professor Zhang Xuexin of Fudan University in 2013.The most fundamental idea of this model is to divide the class time into two part,one part for the teacher's presentation,and the other part for the student's group cooperation and discussion(half of the class time can be adjusted according to the specific class situation).The two parts should be strictly separated to ensure that students have sufficient time to learn and internalize their knowledge.The PAD class consists of three parts: Presentation,assimilation and discussion.The author applies the PAD class teaching model to the vocational English reading teaching,which helps to combine language learning and language application.This thesis is based on the relevant theories and reading theories of the pedagogy,aiming to explore the following two questions:(1)Does the PAD class influence students' reading interest?(2)What are the effects of the PAD class on students English reading ability?The research object of this paper is two classes of Business English majors in Taishan Peiying Vocational Secondary Vocational School.The SPSS software is used to analyze the pre-test reading scores and reading interest questionnaires of the twoclasses.It is found that there is no big difference between the reading scores and reading interest of the two classes.So one of the class is randomly selected as the experiment class and the other is the control class.Subsequently,in the English reading class of secondary vocational schools,the teaching model of the PAD class was applied in experiment class for 20-week.The control class maintains the traditional teaching methods of English reading in secondary vocational schools.After the experiment,the author conducted post-test on the English reading scores and English reading interest of the two classes,and analyzed the pre-test and post-test data in SPSS software.This study has the following findings after teaching experiments:It is found that the students 'English reading performance in the post-test in the experiment class is significantly better than that in the control class.Compared with the pre-test,the students' English reading performance in the experiment class has significantly improved.In terms of homework completion and participation in classroom activities,the students in the experiment class achieve better results,which shows that the PAD class teaching model can effectively improve students 'reading ability.In terms of reading interest,the experiment class scored higher than the control class in the interest questionnaire,and through interviews and feedback questionnaires in the experiment class,it can be concluded that the students' reading initiative in the experimental class was improved,they would actively read in English after class,preferring the teaching model of PAD class.Thus learning that PAD class improved students' reading interest.To a certain extent,this study verifies the effectiveness of the teaching method of PAD class in English reading teaching in secondary vocational schools.However,this study has certain limitations.In the future secondly vocational school English reading teaching,teachers should thoroughly study and use the teaching method of PAD class,fully explore their teaching effects and application value to help students mobilize their interest in learning and develop their ability.
