The Approximate Numbers are a set of words used daily to express approximate quantity in Chinese.They do not express a clear quantity but a rough one.There are various ways of expressing approximate quantity in Chinese.There exist similarities and differences among the usages of Approximate Numbers in Chinese.Thus,the students who are learning Chinese as a second language may find it difficult to master the usage of Chinese Approximate Numbers.The paper divides the expression of Chinese Approximate Numbers into three kinds:(1)two adjacent numbers used to express approximate quantity;(2)JI(?)and LIANG(?)used to express approximate quantity;(3)LAI(?)and DUO(?)used to express approximate quantity.The paper summarizes the usage of the three ways above and analyzes in detail the usage of two adjacent numbers,LAI(?)and DUO(?)to express approximate quantity.The author does some research on Syllabus of Chinese Ranking Vocabulary,Characters and New Syllabus of Graded Vocabulary for HSK and related textbooks,and summarizes the Chinese Approximate Numbers that foreign students should master.The frequently-used Approximate Numbers by foreign students,such as two adjacent numbers,LAI(?)and DUO(?)and ZUOYOU(??)are analyzed.The paper arrives at the conclusion that the frequency of Approximate Numbers is:time>quantity>age>money>height>distance.Foreign students make errors for various reasons in the process of learning the Chinese Approximate Numbers.Focusing on the usage of two adjacent numbers,LAI(?)and DUO(?),the paper collects some of their errors,analyzes the errors,divides them into different types and explores the possible causes.Analyzing the Chinese Approximate Numbers can help the teachers better understand the tendency of foreign students' using of Approximate Numbers and strengthen the teaching strategies to raise the teaching efficiency in the practice of Chinese teaching.
