In modern Chinese,there are some directional words that can be used not only to express orientational meaning,but also in the form of opposites to express approximate meaning,such as"zuo you"(左右),"shang xia"(上下)and"qian hou"(前后).There are two main reasons for choosing"zuo you"(左右)as the subject of this study,Firstly,among this three words,the one with the widest range of meanings is"zuo you"(左右).Secondly,the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus and the Global Mediated Corpus show that international students tend to use the word"zuo you"(左右)when they need to express the approximate meaning.Based on this,this article aims to study the errors of international students in using the word"zuo you"(左右)to express the approximate meaning,in order to summarize the causes of the errors,and then propose targeted teaching measures to help international students use the word"zuo you"(左右)to express the approximate meaning accurately and appropriately.In this paper,we follow the model of collecting error corpus-analysing the causes of error-proposing teaching measures-designing teaching plan,in which the existing error corpus in the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus and the Global Mediated Corpus is less,so we use a questionnaire to further widen the scope of corpus collection.In the analysis of the causes of errors,we focused on the causes of language ontology,the causes of individual students,the causes of teachers’ teaching and the causes of textbook development.In the session on proposing teaching measures,we proposed some targeted teaching measures and implemented these teaching measures in the simulation,which received good feedback.In the design session,20 students were selected for a 90-minute lesson.Before the lesson,a lesson plan was designed using the findings of the previous analysis,and the lesson plan was strictly followed.The effect is very good in this class.The special and innovative part of this paper is to examine the usage of"X-zuo you(左右)"structure separately,as most of the existing studies only focus on the usage of"qian hou"(前后),"zuo you"(左右)and"shang xia"(上下),which are easily confused by international students,which are antonymic compound words to express approximate meaning,but in fact,international students have not yet mastered the usage of one of these words.In addition,scholars have often neglected the content and sequence of textbooks as an important factor affecting the learning effectiveness of international students,but in this paper,the content of textbooks is analyzed as a key component in analyzing the causes of errors.This paper not only summarizes all the contents of the three series of textbooks,namely HSK Standard Course,Developing Chinese,and Boya Chinese,that contain"zuo you"(左右),and presents them in the form of a table.We also analyze whether all the structural forms of the usage of"zuo you"(左右)are included,whether the comparison between the usage of"zuo you"(左右)and the rest of the approximate words is included,whether the co-occurrence of"zuo you"(左右)and the rest of the approximate words is included,the form and number of the exercises set up,and whether the comparison between the usage of"zuo you"(左右)and the rest of the approximate words is included.The textbooks of the above three series have their strengths and weaknesses in terms of the usage of the approximate meaning of"zuo you"(左右),and the corresponding improvement measures are proposed in response to these weaknesses.
