A Report On The Translation Of Global Action Plan On Physical Activity 2018-2030: More Active People For A Healthier World(Excerpts)

This paper is a translation report of Global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030:more active people for a healthier world which was jointly launched by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,the Director-General of the World Health Organization,and Antonio Luis Santos da Costa,Portuguese Prime Minister,on June 4,2018.The plan points out the factors that affect physical health and proposes four strategic goals and 20 policy actions to make people more active for sustainable development.The translation project is excerpted from the main body and appendix I of the plan.The translator intends to ensure the quality and readability of the target text by adopting effective translation strategies and faithfully present the information and policies of the source text to organizations,industries and individuals concerned with physical activity and health.The selected text is an official document issued by WHO.It is a combination of informative text and vocative text.Therefore,attention should be paid to the transmission of information and authenticity while the accuracy and readability should be emphasized in the process of translation.The style of the text is formal,logical.objective.It claims the facts clearly with sufficient evidence and comprehensive policy.It is composed of a great deal complicated sentences,much use of passive voice and various document titles.The translator revised and polished the target text repeatedly and verified the document titles,official agencies' names and proper names to make sure the translation is correctly undertaken.In structure,this report is composed of four parts.The first part gives a full account of the background and significance of the project;the second is about the preparation for the translation,including background of the text,analysis of the text language and style as well as instruments used in the process of translation;the third part presents main translation strategies adopted in the translation process illustrated with specific examples;the last part is a summary of experiences learned from the translation practice as well as the translator's reflection upon this project.
