This paper is a translation report on an excerpt from Concepts of Physical Fitness: Active lifestyle for Wellness, a textbook for college students regarding healthy life, which aims at helping the general public make personal lifestyle changes so as to promote health, fitness, and wellness over a lifetime. This book has been at the cutting edge of physical activity and health promotion. China is on its way to great rejuvenation, and the health of its people is the basic foundation to achieve this great ideal. For this reason, the translation of this book is of realistic significance by introducing advanced concepts of physical activity, active lifestyle and health. From the perspective of Nida’s functional equivalence theory and Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this report explores some translation methods which are useful for textbook translation.This report is divided into four parts: Chapter One, task description, which involves introduction to the translation task, analysis of the source text; Chapter Two,process description, which deals with three steps: preparation, while-translating and post-translating; Chapter Three, case study, which will be discussed from two aspects:first, the introduction of functional equivalence theory and communicative translation theory; second, the translation methods used from lexical level, syntactic level and contextual level; Chapter Four, the conclusion, which summarizes experience accumulated, lessons learned and limitations of this report.
