A Report On The E-C Translation Of Plan Of Action To Integrate Volunteering Into The 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development

With the development of the international community and the expansion of international voluntary organizations,voluntary organizations have attracted increasing attention from all countries as well as from the United Nations.At the seventy-third session of the United Nations General Assembly,the Secretary-General of the United Nations made a report on the implementation of the 2030 Development Plan,namely Plan of Action to Integrate Volunteering into the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.The author was lucky to participate in the English-Chinese translation of the conference document and was guided by Chen Xiaoguang,a senior translator of the United Nations.In the translation process,many difficulties are encountered.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,translation strategies,such as addition,division,conversion,back translation,literal translation and zero-translation,are used to solve problems in the translation practice.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos Theory,at the lexical level,the number and polysemous words in the original text should be translated appropriately according to its context and nominal phrases in the source text are converted into verbal structures in the target text.At the syntactical level,English long clauses are divided into several Chinese clauses and English passive sentences are changed into different Chinese structures.At the textual level,explicit logical relations are added in the translated text,logical relations are adjusted in the target text and footnotes are translated to maintain consistency with similar texts.Finally,the significance of Skopos theory in the translation of the source text and in the translation of the similar texts is discussed.
