A Report On The Translation Of Photovoice Handbook For Social Workers:Method,Practicalities And Possibilities For Social Change (Chapters 3 And 4)

This is a translation project report on translating Photovoice Handbook for Social Workers: Method,Practicalities and Possibilities for Social Change written by Michele Jarldorn,of which the translator has selected Chapters 3 and 4 for translation.The source text centers on the practicalities and skills required to design,implement and facilitate a Photovoice project.Aligning the process of group-based Photovoice projects with Tuckman’s 5 stages of groupwork,it conducts an examination of the sequential stages of using Photovoice with groups.It also explores some of the ways researchers have designed for Photovoice projects,coupled with one case study of communityinitiated Photovoice project,demonstrating the diverse possibilities for community-led social research and action.In translation,the translator encountered many difficulties,one of which is the translation of long and complicated sentences.To ensure the coherence and readability of the target text,the translator employed the theoretical support of German functionalism,of which Katharina Reiss’ s text typology and Hans Vermeer’s skopos theory were mainly applied.Meanwhile,the translator also adopted such translation skills as conversion,linear translation,inverse translation,amplification and omission,division and combination.The translator has also gained experience,learned a lesson,and realized problems needed to be solved via this translation practice.
