This is a report on the translation of The Psychology of Fashion.The translator has chosen Chapter 2 “Wellbeing in the Fashion Industry” and Chapter 3 “The Influence of Fashion on Body Image and ‘Beauty'” from The Psychology of Fashion to do the translation project.Chapter 2 introduces the definition of positive psychology and psychological wellbeing,psychosocial influences on mental health and wellbeing and mental health of workers in the fashion industry.Chapter 3 introduces the definition of body image,beauty and cosmetic interventions,the influence of social media on fashion consumers' body image and the concept of objectification.The two chapters give readers a deep understanding of how psychological health matters in their daily life,thus leading a reduction in mental illness caused by depression or anxiety.Nida's functional equivalence theory is the theoretical guidance of this translation project.According to the theory,translation means using the most appropriate and equivalent language to reproduce the original text,emphasizing not only the equivalence in words,but also in semantics,styles,writing forms,cultural information and most importantly in readers' responses to the source text.The difficulties of the original text lie in the specialized knowledge related to psychology and fashion industry,requiring the translator to not only emphasize the equivalence in meaning,but also focus on the specialized knowledge and the deeper cultural pursuit.
