This is an English-Chinese translation report. The source text of the project is excerpted from Rendezvous with Oblivion: Reports from a Sinking Society written by Thomas Frank. The author analyzed the reasons why Donald Trump had won the campaign and showed us a society in the late stages of disintegration. The source text is vocative based on Peter Newmark's text types. In the process of translation of chapter 4,the translator attempts to solve such difficulties as abstract words,culture-loaded words and complicated sentences by level shift and category shift, which is generally guided by translation shift theory.Hopefully,it will help Chinese readers treat Trump's winning and also step closer to America in terms of its politics. This report is composed of five parts: Firstly, the translator has an overall description of the translation project, including its background, significance and framework structure; The second chapter is an analysis of the source text, which contains the introduction of author, source text as well as its text features; In the third chapter, the translator elaborates on the theory applied in this report--translation shift theory; The fourth chapter gives a detailed illustration on how to solve the problems encountered in the translation project under the guidance of the theory; The last chapter,as a conclusion of the project, includes translation experiences and problems still to be solved.
