A Study On Famen Minyi Ji Basing Upon Its Manuscripts From Dunhuang And Dali

Famen Minyi Ji is a book about Buddhist names compiled by Li Shizheng in Tang Dynasty.The book was lost for a long time.It was not until the Dunhuang remains had been discovered that people can only see its content.The former scholars have already proofread it by using the manuscripts sourced from Dunhuang and Dali.But the use of the manuscripts was relatively limited,not all of them were included.For this reason,the book needs to be revised.In this paper,on the basis of wildly collecting raw data,we revised Famen Minyi Ji.There are two different versions of the book.One is “Dunhuang Version” which based on the wildly materials including the new ones,the other is “Dali Version” which based on the manuscript found in Dali.In addition to a comparative study of the two different versions,some of the items are traced back to their historical sources.The thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background of the topic selection,sorts out the academic history,and explains the research ideas,innovation points,research significance and areas to be expanded.The second chapter sorts out the life of Li Shizheng,introduces the existing codices of Famen Minyi Ji,and points out that they can actually be divided into Dunhuang version and Dali version.Chapter three points out the similarities and differences between these two versions based on their comprehensive comparison.On the basis of the previous chapter,the fourth chapter traces the source of the inconsistencies and unique entries between the two different versions and discusses the reasons for the differences.Chapter five is the conclusion.Based on the above research,this paper points out the significance of the study of "courtesy loss and pursuit of various fields" in Dali.The appendix of the text is the collated texts of the Dunhuang edition and Dali edition,for the reference of relevant researchers.
