Social exclusion is a phenomenon that people's needs for belonging are hindered, and state self-esteem reflects whether the individual's needs for belonging are met. Therefore, social exclusion can reduce the state self-esteem of individuals. The negative impact of low self-esteem has been confirmed by many researchers.Individuals with low self-esteem are usually more sensitive, lack of autonomy, defensive, lonely, pessimistic, and prone to anxiety, depression and other emotional problems. They are also more likely to suffer from psychological disorders.Individuals with high self-esteem have better physical and mental conditions, higher life satisfaction and subjective well-being,and are positively correlated with many positive qualities, such as greater initiative and perseverance to solve problems in study, work and life, strong self-adjustment ability after setbacks, and more prosocial behavior.Improving self-esteem level can increase the subjective well-being of low self-esteem people and increase their adaptive behavior. This view has been accepted and applied by many clinical workers, social interventionists and educational researchers to help patients solve personal and social problems. The type of selfconstrual refers to whether an individual knows himself from the perspective of self or the relationship with others. It can be divided into independent and interdependent self-construal.Independent self-constructors have lower demand for interpersonal relationship than interdependent ones. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the influence of social exclusion on state self-esteem,and the moderating role of self-construal types and the mediating role of self-construal in it,hoping to reduce the negative impact of social exclusion on self-esteem by strengthening the level of independent self-construal.In this study,a 2×2 between-subject design was used in combination with the scale method and the start-up experiment, and 170 undergraduates from Nanyang Polytechnic were selected as subjects to study the relationship between social exclusion,self-construal and state self-esteem.The results are as follows:(1)Social exclusion can reduce the level of individual state self-esteem.(2)The sense of belonging can be used as a reverse measure of social exclusion.(3)The moderating effect of self-construal type on the influence of social exclusion on state self-esteem is not statistically significant.(4)The independent dimension of self-construal partially mediates the influence of social exclusion on state self-esteem.
