A Report On The Interpreting Practicum In China Printing Museum

Nowadays,with the development of China,more and more foreigners are interested in the profound history and culture of China.Therefore,museum shoulders the responsibility to spread our Chinese culture and museum interpreting becomes an important method to promote the exchanges between Chinese culture and foreign cultures.For this reason,this author intends to make analysis on her practice of museum interpreting,so as to provide reference for the development of museum interpreting in the future.From August 15th to 28th,2018,Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press(FLTRP)was responsible for the Beijing Summer Camp of teachers and students from Confucius Institute of Oxford Brooks University.This program was supported by Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban)and Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU).This author worked as an interpreter in this program.This is a report of her interpreting in the visit for China Printing Museum and it adopted four interpreting standards within the Framework of Understanding,Memorizing,Expression and Emergency Response(hereafter referred to as UMEER Framework)proposed by Li Changshuan.Under the part of "Efficiency" in this report,the author innovatively puts forward a new method,"Making Gesture",to improve the quality of interpreting.After the interpreting practice in China Printing Museum,the author utilized four standards in the Framework,namely "Accuracy","Integrity","Efficiency" and"Intelligent Guess",to make analysis on the on-site interpreting which did not conform to these standards in the author's interpreting.Through these cases,this author described the problems she had met,the way to solve these problems,and finally put forward the new revised interpreting which conformed to the standards.Meanwhile,after the analysis of each case,she utilized the quality assessment standard proposed by Bao Gang,namely "comprehensive,accurate and coherent",to assess her revised interpreting as the supplement of her analysis under UMEER Framework.In the end of each section of standards,the author summarized her gains from analysis.In the part of "Efficiency",the author put forward the new method,"Making Gesture",by analyzing some cases in the interpreting.To achieve these goals,the interpreter should always remind himself or herself the theme of the activity and the purpose of speaker's expression and avoid adding the personal opinion in the museum interpreting.The interpreter should read more books for accumulation of knowledge and supplement necessary information to the listener.When facing with emergencies,the interpreter could intelligently guess the speaker's expression.Besides,this author provided the literal record of her interpreting,revised interpreting and the bilingual terms for future reference.
