This practice report is based on Thaxter's personal literary work An Island Garden under the guidance of Skopos Theory. As a representative work of naturalism literature----a branch of American realism literature school,An Island Garden is famous for its unique language style and exquisite writing techniques, and enjoys a great reputation in the worldwide literary area.Today, with the great development and blending of global culture, the translation and introduction of such a work to Chinese readers will be of great significance and value. The main feature of the work is its special language style.Lots of rhetorical methods are used in it.Besides, the author's humor and deep emotion are also shown in the text.In the process of translation,it is a spot as well as a difficult point for Chinese readers to handle properly and make it accepted by Chinese readers. The author holds that the three principles----skopos,loyalty and coherence in Skopos Theory are the effective ways to solve the difficulty of translation, and have an important role in promoting the quality of the translation work. This report is divided into five parts. The first part briefly explains the background;the second part will introduce something about the work, including the introduction of the author, the work's era environment and its characteristics and difficulties, the author's school, and the analysis on her work's special style, etc;the third part will describe all aspects of the translation process, including pre-translation preparation, process progress and post-translation revision, and give careful and real description on all details of these aspects;while the fourth part is the core of this report, which will illustrate the challenges in the whole process of practice through cases analysis, such as the challenges in rhetorical methods and the procession of sentence form, and how to face the challenges properly by using translation theory;the fifth part is going to talk about personal experience in the whole translation process and some other problems that need to be solved urgently, for example, the problems caused by the limitation of the theory itself, and so on.
