A Practical Report Of C-E Translation Of The Story Of Li Bing(Excerpt)

Currently,promoting Chinese culture to go global through various ways is an important measure for China’ strategy of achieving “strong country in culture”,and the in-depth exploration and inheritance of local culture is also considered as an important way of “go-out policy” for Chinese culture.Sichuan,as one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization,has a profound historical and cultural heritage,and its famous masters are shining like stars.Therefore,the advocating of Sichuan history and culture,especially its celebrity culture,not only helps readers at home and abroad to understand the history and culture of Sichuan,to experience the historical stories with local characteristics,but also effectively promotes the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cultures,and enhances the charm of Chinese culture.This report is based on the translation practice of Chinese material text “The Story of Li Bing”(excerpt).The source text includes figure stories and historical events,which mainly describes the ancient Bashu before Li Bing arrived,the pioneers of water control and the difficulties encountered by Li Bing in the construction of Du Jiangyan Water Irrigation Project,as well as the great achievements he made in the end.The translator uses translation strategies to faithfully convey the information of the source text while preserving the linguistic features of the source text through the understanding of the source text and the analysis of translation cases.Guided by the Skopos theory,the translator of this report analyses how translation methods and strategies are used from lexical and syntactic level to meet the needs of target readers.In terms of vocabulary,the translator adopts the translation strategies like free translation and transliteration with annotation,which makes the translation fluent and in line with the Skopos rule.In order to achieve the desired purpose of cross-cultural communication,the translator flexibly applies different translation methods into the translation of syntax,such as amplification,omission,conversion and combination,realizing the rule of coherence.Through the proper choice of vocabulary and the appropriate adjustment of syntax,the purpose of translation is realized and the expected effect is achieved,which makes the translation easier for readers to read and accept.At the same time,it is helpful for the dissemination and promotion of local history and culture in Sichuan and promotes Chinese culture to the world.
