With rapid economic advancement worldwide and increasingly frequent global exchanges, translation of English for science and technology(EST)has come into being and played an important role in international communication of science and technology.Skopos theory is the representative theory of Germany Functionalist School and has made great contributions to development of both translation theory and translation practice on a world basis. This report, with the text of EST as a case study, takes Skopos theory as its guidance, aiming to summarize some translation methods of texts of EST in terms of word and sentence so as to improve the quality of target text and convey original information.English for science and technology differs from other common texts and has its own features at the lexical and syntactic levels. As regards lexical features,EST is rich in technical words,semi-technical words and nominal structures.Corresponding translation should pay attention to fidelity and coherence,so translation process should be guided by the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity. With regard to syntactic features, there are many non-finite clauses, passive sentences and long and complex sentences. The target text should be accurate enough to spread original information and achieve desired communicative goals,so the principle of purpose, the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity should be followed.Hence,it is obvious that Skopos theory is feasible in guiding EST translation. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is mainly constituted by task background, task introduction and task significance. The second chapter focuses on task process which includes preparation before translation, process of translation and proofreading after translation.Preparation before translation is introduced in aspects of having a good knowledge of features of EST and requirements of its translation. The third chapter gives an introduction of development process of Skopos theory, the theoretical basis of this report, and then illustrates its three main principles and their relations. In the fourth chapter, the writer summarizes some translation strategies at the lexical and syntactic levels under the guidance of Skopos theory. The fifth chapter is about personal gains of the writer during translation practice.
