Wu Ai is known as "the father of Chinese modern vagrant literature" and "vagrant literary giant".His Heading South written in the 1930 s has unique literary value in the history of modern literature, which is established his position in the history of Chinese modern literature and is highly praised by the academic circles. In 1961,Wu Ai traveled southward again and wrote the Heading South Sequel,at the same place, but its artistic level was far from Heading South. This paper explores the differences and connections between the two works horizontally and the reasons for the sequel of the writer vertically from Heading South to Heading South Sequel according to the author's own transmutation and sequel.Firstly,Firstly, analysis of author's sequel, horizontal comparison from Heading South to Heading South Sequel and analysis of changes in characters, changes in exotic landscapes, transformation in style and color and changes in major contradictions from the perspective of text content.Secondly, from the perspective of narrative mode, this paper analyzes the separation of creative subject and the lack of individualization and the change of the narrator's image and structural function in Heading South Sequel,as well as homogeneity and integration of thematic propaganda model. There are vivid characters in Heading South. The vagrants in the story are rough, barbarous, bohemian and game life, but they still retain the pure gold in their temperament. The new youth of the new era in the Heading South Sequel are diligent, brave and selfless, which hides the shortcomings of human nature, and their characters are relatively single. The natural environment in Heading South is poetic, strange and dangerous. The exotic scenery in Heading South Sequel is bright, lovely and full of new hope. The color style in Heading South is dark and critical, which is bright and eulogistic in the Heading South Sequel. The novel Heading South highlights the contradiction between feudal landlords and slaves, while the novel Heading South Sequel mainly highlights class contradictions.Secondly, this paper analyzes the sequel's gains and losses from the perspective of narrative sight.Compared with Heading South,Heading South Sequel lacks a unique narrative perspective. The functional structure of the narrator in the novel has also changed, and the theme of the novel tends to be singular and homogenized. Finally, from these aspects as the change of time background and the author's own internal factors, this paper analyzes the reasons for the author's sequel vertically. The personal factors mainly include the author's transmutation, the difference in status, and being the writer's representative from a vagrant at the bottom. As the chairman of Chongqing Literary Federation, his realistic position has changed. His sense of political mission has been constantly strengthened. His pursuit of literature is to serve politics. At the same time,it is also the salvation for the people in the border areas.
