A Study On The C-E Translation Of The Report At 19^th CPC National Congress From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

With the rapid improvement of China's economic strength and international status,international publicity has become an important way to tell Chinese stories well,promote Chinese culture,and enhance China's influence.As an important window for the world to obtain better understanding of China,translation of political documents bears the responsibility of publicizing national conditions,developing trends,principles and policies of China.Report at 19~thh CPC National Congress(hereafter the 19~thh NCCPC Report),a comprehensive,strategic and prospective action program,is a work summary of great and historical achievements obtained since the 18~thh National Congress and a overall plan for the development of next five years that covers politics,economy,people's livelihood,national defense and foreign affairs,etc.Therefore,an objective and accurate translation is beneficial to Chinese culture“going global”and to foreign readers'understanding of development prospect and administrative policies of China.Eco-translatology,an ecological approach to translation studies,is designed to describe and explain the entire translational ecology and ontological translation theories.It emphasizes that translation is selection activity of translator's adaptation to fit the translational eco-environment by textual transplantation.In the process of translation,translator needs to make adaptation and selection,employing“multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection”as principle to restrict the entire translating process.Moreover,the three-dimensional transformation is proposed to pursue the optimal translation with the“degree of holistic adaptation and selection”.Therefore,Eco-translatology provides both a new perspective and theoretical guidance for translation studies.In terms of the distinctive stylistic features of the 19~thh NCCPC Report,the study selects the English version of the 19~thh NCCPC Report as research material.And based on Eco-translatology,the study is intended to explore how translators make adaptation to the translational eco-environment and what translation methods are adopted to conduct appropriate selections to achieve the optimal effect of translation from the linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.The results of the study show that:1.Translators mainly make selective adaptation from the following two aspects:translators make selective adaptation to the needs and competence in the“internal”aspect and they mainly conduct selective adaptation to the translational eco-environment in the“external”aspect,including readers,languages,cultural differences and social environment that the 19~thh NCCPC Report belongs to.2.Translators adopt different translation methods to achieve adaptive selection from three dimensions:(1)From the linguistic dimension,translators flexibly adopt literal translation,literal translation with annotation,free translation,addition and omission and so on to make adaptive selections at lexical,syntactic and rhetorical levels.By doing so,the readability of translation is greatly improved and target readers can understand the text more easily;(2)From the cultural dimension,in order to avoid cultural conflicts and misunderstandings,literal translation and free translation are mainly employed to represent the connotations and forms of Chinese culture;(3)From the communicative dimension,free translation and addition are used to eliminate the barrier to understanding to achieve the purpose of communication,so that target readers can understand the information and ideas more clearly conveyed from the 19~thh NCCPC Report.
