The source text of the translation practice is from Confucius & Confucianism: The Essentials.The author,Lee Dian Rainey,is an associate professor of religious studies at Memorial University in Newfoundland,Canada.She has taught Chinese philosophy,culture,language and history for more than 20 years and has published lots of books in this field.This is a book that introduces Confucius' thoughts and the development of Confucianism.It is characterized by the adoption of chronological narration and the western perspective on Confucius and Confucianism.It summarizes the evolution of Confucianism in Chinese history.The translator selects Chapter 7 to Chapter 13 as the source text,which mainly introduces the inheritance and development of Confucianism by Xunzi and the evolution of Confucianism from Qin Dynasty to the present.This translation report consists of four parts: The first part is the description of the translation task.It mainly introduces the translation background of the book,the feature of the task and the translation plan.The second part is the description of the translation process.In this chapter,the translator mainly introduces the pre-translation preparation,translation process and posttranslation management.The third part is the case analysis of translation,focusing on the lexical,syntactic,thinking and cultural differences between English and Chinese and mainly discusses the three aspects of determination of the translation units,term translation and back translation of citation.The fourth part is the summary of the translation practice.The translator summarized the gains and the shortcomings,the difficulties and some enlightenment.
