The materials for this translation practice report are selected from chapters 1 to 4 of South Africa's National Water Act,which was revised in 1998.Drawing on the wisdom of many countries and various aspects,the new water act has been recognized as a masterpiece and model of environmental legislation in the global scope.It has exerted a far-reaching impact on the legislation and revision of water resources in other countries,especially developing countries.Starting from the actual situation of water shortage and imperfect legislation in China,South Africa's National Water Act provides a correct basis for further improvement of China's water act.In the process of translating South Africa's national water act,the translator analyzes the problems encountered in the process of translation and puts forward solutions,which provides certain translation ideas for future legal translation practices,especially those related to water act.This thesis is a practical report on the translation of South Africa's National Water Act,which has good practicality and applicability.The full text is divided into five parts.The first part is the overall description of the translation task.In this part,the translator makes an analysis of the background and significance of the translation project.The second part is the description of the translation process,which is analyzed from three stages: pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third part is the elaboration of the basic principles of legal translation.On the basis of the research of Qiu Guixi and other scholars,the translator formulated four translation principles based on the practical problems encountered in the translation of South Africa's water act.Under the guidance of these four translation principles,a detailed analysis of the problems arising in the translation process of South Africa's National Water Act.The fourth part is the main part of the practical report.The translator makes an analysis of specific translation cases from the lexical and sentence levels.In the fifth part,the translator summarizes the whole translation practice,points out the shortcomings in translation practice,puts forward the problems encountered and solutions,and finally summarizes the inspiration and prospects for future translation work.
