In current days, energy transition has been a strategic choice for many countries. As the largest power exporting country in southern Africa and a typical coal dependent country,South Africa has a great influence on global climate change for its energy transition strategy, which proved reference role for China. At the same time, the transition research of information-based texts is of positive significance for enriching the case-study materials of similar texts. The source text was excerpted from South Africa’s Energy Transition written by Andrew Lawrence. The excerpts of the text introduced the current electricity management situation and three kinds of paradigms of South Africa’s energy transition. They were mainly about the possibility of South Africa’s energy transition according to the socio-technical system theory.South Africa’s Energy Transition is an informative text, and there are many difficulties in its translation. In this paper, complete translation and the strategy of translating according to the context were used to translate the energy terms and semi-technical terms.Division, combination and adaptation were used in the translation of multiple attributive structures, parentheses, and inanimate subject sentences respectively.Because a large number of pronouns and omitted logic relations were used to ensure the coherence and cohesion of the text, this paper restored the alternative components and used many logical connectors. It must be of great significance to translate South Africa’s Energy Transition accurately for developing China’s energy management experiences and promoting the flow of information-related production factors across countries and regions. The author hopes that this translation practice report will do its best to promote the exchange and cooperation of China-Africa energy management experiences and enrich the information-based text translation research materials.
