Phoenix does not really exist.Its appearance embodies the wisdom and intelligent of the Chinese people and has rich cultural connotation and artistic value.In the course of historical development,the image of Phoenix has been sublimated constantly,and has condensed the painstaking efforts of artists of all dynasties.At first,the phoenix as the original totem has the suffocating power of the enemy.With the continuous development of human society and the continuous improvement of productivity,people’s cognition of the world has been continuously improved,and the connotation of the phoenix has undergone subtle changes.Phoenix gradually developed from an early totem pattern to a beautiful image symbolizing auspiciousness,happiness and nobility.This study takes the image of Phoenix in the Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object.During this period,the painter’s phoenix paintings are the focus of research,trying to make a deep summary study of the works.Firstly,this study introduces the Phoenix Culture and phoenix pattern from a macro perspective.Phoenix culture is a collection of literature,aesthetics,ethnology,folklore,mythology,archeology and other multi-disciplinary essence,rich in connotation.From ancient times till now,Phoenix has been loved by people.Secondly,this paper studies the Phoenix theme paintings of court painters,literati doctors and folk painters.Affected by the productivity,politics and culture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Phoenix theme paintings show the characteristics of moving from palace art to popular art.Then,this study analyzed and summarized the three characteristics of Phoenix image development in Ming and Qing Dynasties: female transformation,stylization,standardization and personification.Finally,this study concludes that the Phoenix has been endowed by the broad masses of people with lofty,auspicious,and loveful meanings,as well as the influence of modern and modern phoenix paintings.In the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the paintings of the phoenix theme have obvious characteristics of the times.During this period,the development of the Phoenix image was inextricably linked with politics,economy,and culture.This study conducts in-depth research on the paintings of phoenix paintings in the Ming and Qing Dynasties through a series of methods such as comparative reading and summary analysis,in order to make a reference for later generations to study phoenix paintings.
