A Report On E-C Translation Of UAV Instruction Manual From The Perspective Of Text Typology

With the development of China's economy and maturity of civil UAV technology,more and more UAV-funs are eager to learn more information about this latest and cutting-edge product and show their eagerness to purchase drones for racing,photo shot and aerial photography.Undoubtedly,an instructional and user friendly product manual will increase intimacy between reader and technology and thus assist readers to get familiar with product to have a wonderful flying experience.UAV instruction manual obviously belong to technical scientific and technological text,aiming to promote product and disseminate latest UAV technology.Admittedly,the textual character is distinct as concise,object,and logic.However,as UAV product mushroomed in recent years,only limited technical instructions are available for readers to select in the market.On account of this situation,the translation research of UAV product instructions is significant and meaningful with economic value.Reiss's Text Typology shows operability in guiding translator to objectively analyze text functions and text focus and select appropriate translation methods based on text functions and text features in the process of translation.However,relatively few studies have applied Text Typology to the instructions of high-tech products.This paper employs Reiss's Text Typology as a foundation for translation theory,with a commercial UAV instruction manual for the specific research object to explore applicable translation methods of high-tech product instructions.This paper introduces Reiss's Text Typology,mainly including text classification,text focus and selection of translation methods.This paper makes an in-depth analysis of text type classification,text focus,text features,selection and practice of translation methods based on some specific examples selected from partial chapters in UAV instruction manual.Through text analysis,the UAV instruction manual belongs to content-focused text and with appellative function.The text focus of the UAV instruction manual mainly lies in objectively conveying product information and correctly guiding operation procedures,and meanwhile it focuses on making an appeal to target readers through imperative sentences and statements with product promotion nature,clearly showing the informative function and appellative function of the original text,and its text features are reflected at lexical level and syntactic level.In the process of translation,this paper puts forward the following translation methods of scientific and technological instruction manual based on Reiss's Text Typology:namely focusing on text focus and text features to systematically analyze the original text and clarify the text type.In addition,concerning on specific text type and text functions,adopting zero translation,liberal translation and division to ensure accurately transfer the high-tech terminologies and complicated long sentences to reproduce the original informative function.In the meantime,employ amplification,shift and literal translation to effectively achieve the appellative function loaded in statements with product promotion nature and imperative sentences and allow users to effectively and clearly understand the instructions and incite target readers to make a response.With the translation methods proposed based on Reiss's Text Typology,the translation quality of scientific and technological instruction texts can be improved and the research on the translation theory of scientific and technological instruction texts can be supplemented.
