Information technologies have brought new opportunities and challenges to various fields,including education.In fact,the so-called "Internet+Education" has attracted great attention and become a hot research topic."Internet+Education" has compensated many of the disadvantages of traditional education.It has made ubiquitous learning possible.Unrestricted by time or space,learners may learn in a more diversified and reasonable way.It was under such circumstances that smart classroom appeared and became more and more popular.This study is based on previous studies of teaching methods related to smart classroom.It also takes into account the disadvantages of large-class teaching and the features of junior middle school learners.It optimizes the teaching methods proposed or employed by previous scholars or teachers,aiming to make the best use of smart classroom in teaching English to junior learners in large classes.The study consists of three steps:First,optimization of the procedures of teaching in smart classroom and the teaching methods for English classes of different focuses.Through extensive reading of previous literature,the present researcher obtained a profound understanding of the definition and characteristics of smart classroom and theories related to teaching in smart classroom.Then,taking into consideration of the requirements in the New Curriculum,features of junior middle school learners and disadvantages of large-class teaching,the present researcher modifies the teaching methods proposed or employed by previous scholars or teachers in smart classroom.Second,application of the optimized methods.Two classes of Junior One in the school where the present researcher teaches were randomly chosen as experiment groups and two other classes of the same grade from the same school as control groups.Optimized methods were used in experiment groups.The teaching experiment lasted a school term.Finally,determination of the effects of the optimized methods.Interviews and a questionnaire survey were conducted among the teachers and students involved in the teaching experiment.Then,data collected from the interviews,survey and comparison of the academic achievements between the experiment and control groups were analyzed to find out how the teachers and students felt about the teaching methods and the effects of these methods on students' academic achievement and study behaviour.The study finds that the optimized methods for teaching in smart classroom cater to the requirements in the New Curriculum,can enhance the effect of teaching activities,and are welcomed by the teachers and students.Therefore,the present researcher draws the following conclusions from the study:1)Large-class junior English teaching can be conducted in smart classroom.2)Teaching English in smart classroom can help junior middle school learners to improve their academic achievement 3)Teaching English in smart classroom can increase junior middle school learners'motivation to learn English.4)Teaching designs customized for English classes of different focuses provide clearer guidance for teachers and students who carry out teaching activities in smart classroom.
