Application Of Communicative Translation In E-C Translation Of Economic News-A Translation Report On Translation Workshop:Reading And Translation

This translation report is based on Chinese to English translation of a teaching material called Translation Workshop:Reading and Translation.In this report,the author chooses the "Economy" Chapter as translation material,and analyzes the application of communicative translation in E-C translation of economic news which are selected from"The Economist","The New Yorker" and&"China Daily",etc.Communicative translation aims to transfer information in accordance with the expression habit,culture and pragmatic method of target language in order to realize the communicative purposes of the source text.According to the text typology of Peter Newmark,there are three main text types,which are expressive text,informative text and vocative text.English economic news in this project is belong to informative text.The author adopts communicative translation so as to realize its communicative functions including information transmission and attitude expressing.In order to realize the purpose of information transmission in economic news in Translation Workshop;Reading and Translation,the author adopts annotation and amplification to deal with information deficiency and different grammatical structures between English and Chinese in the source text;About the treatment of redundant information in the source text,the author uses reduction to cope with it;The author adopts substitution to deal with the differences of expressions and cultures between English and Chinese so as to improve the readability of the target text.Besides,two translation methods,shift of perspectives and inversion are used to convey text writer's attitude in a better way.In conclusion,the author believes that communicative translation can effectively deliver information and express text writer's attitude,when translating informative texts,such as English economic news.
