With the rapid development of social economy and the continuous promotion of urbanization and industrialization in our country recent years,traditional family structure has experienced dramatic changes in rural areas due to the large number of male and female labors flooding into the cities for better income.Thus,many young children have been left behind in the countryside in the care of relatives and friends.Long-term separation from their parents and lack of parental care often make left-behind children prone to psychological problems such as anxiety and depression.In terms of interpersonal communication,left-behind children are more likely to have social anxiety problems due to lack of parental guidance.Previous studies have shown that the emotional problems of students in primary school usually gradually increase with grades.And the social anxiety of left-behind children would reach the peak at the fifth and sixth grades.This study firstly investigated the prevalence of social anxiety among left-behind children in grades five and six,and then used positive psychology as a theoretical basis to explore the intervention effect of positive psychology group counseling on social anxiety of left-behind children in grades five and six.In this study,the fifth and sixth grade students of two primary schools in Zhangjiajie City,Hunan Province were selected as the research objects.Questionnaire survey was conducted by a professionally trained master student to collect basic demographic information and anxiety levels.For this study,the definition of left-behind children was as follows:l.one of both patents go outside for work;2.children were alone in their hometown and cared for by one of the parents or relatives;3.The time of left-behind is more than 6 months.In this study,900 questionnaires for Children's Social Anxiety Scale were distributed,and 891 questionnaires were returned finally.There were 867 valid questionnaires and the effective recovery rate was 97.26%.There are 352 left-behind children in this study.This study consists of two parts.The first part investigated the current status and differences in aspect of social anxiety between left-behind children and non-left-behind children in grades 5 and 6.In the second part,one of the primary schools was selected to screen out the left-behind children with high social anxiety(score?18)(n=20),then divided them into experimental group(n=10)and control group(n ?10).8 times well-designed positive psychology group counseling were conducted in experimental group.Children in control group were gathered together not receive any counseling but read books while the experimental group was conducting group counseling.This is to explore the effectiveness of positive psychology group counseling on social anxiety interventions for left-behind children in grades 5 and 6.The group counseling program of positive psychology was designed.The experimental group received eight group counseling sessions.The control group did not receive any counseling during this period,but gathered together to read books while the experimental group received group counseling in order to investigate the effectiveness of positive psychological group counseling on social anxiety of left-behind children in grades 5 and 6.This study draws the following conclusions:1.The detection rate of social anxiety was 33.3%in the fifth and sixth grade of primary school,39.6%in left-behind children,40.9%in boys and 38.3%in girls.The social anxiety level of left-behind children was significantly higher than that of non-left-behind children.2.Positive psychological group counseling could effectively improve the social anxiety,social avoidance and distress and negative evaluation of left-behind children in grades five and six.
