With the continuous development of globalization,English plays an increasingly important role in international exchanges and cooperation. The cultivation of international talents in intercultural communication is also extremely urgent. In view of this, the author has selected Chapter One in this book-An Intercultural Approach to English Language Teaching as the translation material in this report, which focuses on the study of intercultural approaches to second language education. It systematically introduces relevant disciplines of intercultural teaching approaches and proposes specific intercultural English teaching methods, which is of great significance to the improvement of intercultural communicative competence and the cultivation of international talents. As an important linguistic theory,Adaptation Theory is applied to study the translation of academic texts. In this report, the author has analyzed the linguistic features of the translation material and made appropriate linguistic choices and adaptation in the process of translation, which is accurate and objective in language with rigorous structure and logic,so as to better complete the translation. In addition,by virtue of three key notions of Adaptation Theory, the author has made a detailed analysis of the translation of academic texts in this report from the four angles of investigation, namely, contextual correlates of adaptation, structural objects of adaptation, dynamics of adaptation and salience of adaptation.Different translation strategies and methods for nine kinds of examples have been adopted, such as literal translation, free translation, domestication, amplification, and division to make the translation as accurate and smooth as possible and better realize the communicative purpose. In the translation practice, the author has endeavored to combine theory with practice, hoping to provide some reference for the translation of academic texts and its further research in the future. To sum up,the author believes that in the process of translating academic texts, translators not only need to enrich background knowledge in specific academic fields, but also take into full account the structural and expressive differences and cultural differences between English and Chinese. Then different translation strategies in compliance with specific contexts and communicative purposes should be chosen.Hence, appropriate linguistic choices and adaptation can be made by translators to make the translation accurate, fluent and easy to be understood and accepted by the target readers,as well as consistent with the linguistic features and style of academic texts.
