At present, there are many studies on discourse markers in written language, mainly focusing on a specific discourse marker, while the research on discourse markers in spoken dialogue, especially on the function of discourse,is not comprehensive enough. For example,"not said" is a common idiom in daily conversation, and the academic research on it is not comprehensive enough. As a common idiomatic chunk, the unspoken phrase can be used in both written and spoken languages. At present, there are few studies on "unspoken" and only a few studies on "unspoken" are focused on its grammaticalization and lexicalization. On the basis of previous studies by scholars, this paper makes a comprehensive analysis of the discourse function of "unspoken" as a discourse marker. The article is divided into three parts: the preface mainly introduces the reasons for selecting the topic of "not said".By sorting out the related research status of discourse markers and "not said",this paper makes a detailed understanding of the research status of "not said",and explains the main theoretical support, research methods and corpus sources used in the article.Chapter one analyses the relevant syntax and semantics of "not said",and analyses the definition of "not said" as a discourse marker, the relevant variants and the position of its emergence. As a discourse marker,"not said" has the characteristics of syntactic independence and plays a cohesive role. The semantic orientation of "not said" can be divided into two parts: the former and the latter.Chapter two analyses the textual function of "unspoken" from the context function and contextual function of "unspoken",and examines the relevance of "unspoken" in a specific text. The contextual function of "not said" is used in monologue discourse, which connects the upper and lower sentences or paragraphs. The contextual function of "not said" is used in the speech delivered by the speaker in the scene."Say nothing" associates context with discourse.Chapter three investigates the interpersonal function of "unspoken" and introduces the interpersonal dialogue function and modal function of "unspoken".In order to analyze the specific differences in attitudes in verbal communication, the author compares "not said" with "yes","good" and "good" which also contain affirmative answers. As a discourse marker, the most important function of "unspoken" is embodied in the specific language environment. This chapter introduces the interpersonal dialogue function and modal function of "not said",and analyses the difference between "yes","good" and "well" as the affirmative response. The concluding part mainly summarizes the main research contents and the shortcomings of this paper.
