Since the implementation of reform and opening-up,China has experienced rapid development in tourism industry.It is estimated by World Tourism Organization that China will become the largest tourism country in the world by 2020.An increasing number of tourists from all over the world are attracted to China because of its abundant and mysterious tourism resources.China is a great country with time-honored civilization,whose tourism resources contain rich cultural information.Shandong province,as one of the two birthplaces of Chinese civilization,has given birth to a large number of historical and cultural celebrities.The gorgeous sceneries and time-honored history in Shandong province have provided endless resources for the development of Shandong tourism.Against the background of globalization,the increase of cross-border tourism offers both an opportunity and a challenge for Shandong tourism industry.The translation of tourism texts plays an increasingly important role in tourism industry.Qualified translated texts can attract more foreign tourists,while unqualified ones will hinder the further development of Shandong tourism industry.However,the present CE translation of tourist texts is not satisfactory.Especially,the translation of cultureloaded words in tourist texts have been neglected unconsciously or unconsciously,which is inadvisable.The culture-loaded word,which represents Chinese excellent traditional culture,is a good carrier of Chinese culture and it is the core of the translation of tourism texts.The translation study of them deserves more attention from translation researchers.For this reason,the thesis explores the C-E translation of culture-loaded words in tourist text from the perspective of Skopos Theory,taking “Travel Around China: Shandong Province” as an example.The book Travel Around China: Shandong Province,as a kind of typical tourist material with abundant cultural information,is an excellent book to study Shandong tourism culture.Tourist text is a typical kind of informative text with strong induction.The purpose of tourist text is to attract tourists.Besides,Skopos Theory emphasizes that translation is purpose-oriented,and the purpose of translation determines the process of translation.Therefore,the Skopos Theory is very suitable for guiding the translation of tourist text,which has a strong purpose.The Skopos Theory includes three rules,namely,the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule,which are inseparable.Under the guidance of Skopos rule,the author adopts the translation strategies of amplification and omission to translate some culture-loaded words in tourist text.Taking the objective of attracting visitors as the prime purpose,the strategies are adopted to add some explanatory information or simply omit some culture-loaded words that contain rich cultural connotations but difficult to understand.Under the guidance of coherence rule,the author adopts the translation strategies of free translation and cultural analogy to translate some cultureloaded words in tourist text.To achieve coherence of the translation text,these strategies are used to paraphrase the historical allusions and idioms with words of the same cultural connotation at the sacrifice of Chinese cultural characteristics.Under the guidance of fidelity rule,the author adopts the translation strategies of literal translation and transliteration to translate other culture-loaded words in tourist text.As for the culture-loaded words that can be understood from the context,such as the proper names,the strategies of literal translation and transliteration are adopted to maintain their cultural connotations.Generally speaking,the author holds that translators should select appropriate translation strategies to translate culture-loaded words in tourist text under the guidance of Skopos Theory,so as to promote the development of Chinese tourism industry and the Stepping-out of Chinese Culture.
