A Report On C-E Translation Of The Culture Loaded Words In Five Hundred Attractions In Shanxi Province—From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the booming of C hinese tourism,there is a growing market demand of the translation of C hinese tourist texts.During the process of translation,the translation of culture-loaded words has become a great challenge for translators.This thesis is a report on a Chinese-English translation of C hapter 3 and the first part of Chapter 5 of Five Hundred Attractions in Shanxi Province by An Rui sheng.It analyzes the translation methods of Chinese culture-loaded words with the guidance of Skopos theory in an expectation to help overseas readers have a better understanding of Shanxi,especially sites in Shuozhou and Niangziguan Pass,and thus boom the tourism in Shanxi Province.Also it is hoped that this translation can make contributions to “telling good stories about China”,actively responding to the “go global strategy” of the Chinese government.The report consists of five parts.C hapter One introduces the translation project.Chapter Two focuses on the process of translation.Chapter Three expounds on the preparation of theory for translation.Chapter Four illustrates translation cases.As the main body of this report,this chapter introduces three parts,including functions and types of tourism texts,translation principles of culture-loaded words as well as the translation methods of culture-loaded words in the text.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the thesis,which summarizes the translation methods for five different types of culture-loaded words,implications of this translation and the weakness and pending issues.
